The piece is skillfully painted in its realistic simplicity. There is another quite skillful painting on verso, a still life of potatoes. Two French miniatures after Francois Boucher, handpainted over a type of sepia transfer print, onto Celluloid. Boucher, a popular 18th Century French artist, was noted for his pastoral and mythological scenes; he was much copied and immitated, as in these lovely miniatures.
