Extremely rare late 19th Century wood Marquetry panel by furniture mosaic artist, Johann-Adelhard (1850-1927), Nuremberg, Germany. The panel contains over 10,000 tiny pieces of differing, natural woods, hand-cut and hand-set to form a picturesque scene of Old Nuremberg called "Hangman's Bridge," or "Henkersteg." Fine impressionist Oil Painting on board, by 20th Century, listed Soviet artist, Vasili (also, Vasiley) Andrrianovich Zaitchenko (1912-1980s), of Barges on the Black Sea. Zaitchenko was born in Odessa which was then part of the Soviet Union, and which gained its independence as part of the Ukraine subsequent to his death. We are not quite sure what all has gone on with this little painting, showing apparent losses and inpainting, but it remains a charming 19th Century courting scene which we have dubbed "The Proposal." A gentleman, hat in lap has lay his gift, a bouquet of flowers, on the table; has his hands over his heart; a smile and look on his face, all seeming to indicate his intentions and expression of love -- it does appear likely that he is proposing marriage.
