| A very special antique Venetian 3-piece set, seldom available, from the late 1800s, a girasol (opalescent) covered sherbet or fingerbowl with matching plate, and cover decorated with an adorable crackle finish applied lemon. There is one ring of applied crystal just above the crystal stem on the bowl, as well as around the edge of the cover. The pontil of the plate is the older, 5-point "star", and there is a sharp, broken pontil on the foot, and another inside of the cover. As both the Fratelli Toso and Antonio Salviati glasshouses created these lovely pieces with attached fruit, and they were of similar design, it is difficult to say who actually made this; however, we lean strongly toward Salviati given the coloring cast in the girasol. The plate is 6" diameter, .75" high; the bowl with cover measures nearly 6" high, 3.75" diameter; foot is just over 2" diameter. Excellent condition. c. 1865-1890s. $12 US Shipping. | |||||||||
