| A strongly charismatic scene which draws the viewer into this mystical landscape created in oil on canvas. Listed artist, Victor Ball (1900 - ) American, uses a most attractive color palette and skillful brush technique to create one of the most pleasing scenes imaginable. Amid dense trees, foliage, and scattered wild flowers, an intriguiging arch appears, just at the point where the flock of sheep are passing through. A plein air artist, carrying his easel, stops momentarily to greet the shepherd who rests against an outcrop of rocks on the side of the pathway. The view then soars over the treetops to an amazing vista beyond, of rolling hills, low mountains, some hinting of caves, and a perfect blue sky with a few tight cumulus clouds. One would never tire of looking at this wonderful painting, by an artist known for such bucolic scenes; signed lower right, "V. Ball." 18" x 24" (45.72 x 60.96 cm), gilded wood frame to 26" x 32" x 3" (66.04 x 81.82 x 7.62 cm). Excellent condition. c. 1940s. | ||||||||||||
