Pair of original oil paintings on unstretched canvas, by listed American artist, Verne Lucinda McCann Gillespie (1901-1980) American. Signed "Verne" lower left, each image. The artist was known for desert and coastal scenes of California. Native to Wisconsin, Ms. Gillespie, was a long-time resident of California, and exhibited in 1964, with the Twenty-Nine Palms Artists Guild. Her works, typically small, are rarely available. We are pleased to offer these fine examples of her work, both coastal scenes, presumably of the Laguna Beach area, each sight image measuring 5" x 5" (12.70 x 12.70 cm), displayed in the original wood frames to 7" x 7" x 1" (17.78 x 17.78 x 2.54 cm). The back of each frame retains two original labels: a green and silver foil label stating "Bird's Studio Shops, Laguna Beach, Calif;" and another label stating "This is a genuine oil painting on canvas by Verne of Laguna Beach California." Bird's Studio Shops did business at 448 South Court Highway, in the early 1940s. Both paintings and frames are in excellent condition. c. 1940-1950. $12 US Shipping. [easel not included] |
