Small, exquisite portrait by listed artist ("Who was Who in American Art 1564-1975"), Mary Seaman, and signed lower left. Ms. Seaman studied at the Art Students League of New York, and is known to have exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, as well as through the Independent Society of Artists. The painting depicts a cherub-like child, in gossamer gown and red velvet cap; mesmerizing brown eyes matching the curls of dark hair. Oil on panel, in original giltwood frame. Exhibits some craquelure, one small repair above-left of cap, a few very minor scuffs, and small repairs at the hairline. Upper left corner of frame is missing gesso and it has been gilded over; two or three additional, small, minor gesso losses. Otherwise in good condition. Image is 4.75" x 6.75" (12.06 x 17.14 cm), framed to 6.75" x 8.75" x 1" (15.24 x 22.22 x 2.54 cm). c. Date is being researched. $16 US Shipping. [easel not included] |
