The celebrated porcelain artist, Bjorn Wiinblad (1918-2006, Denmark), created this beautiful gilded design, as part of his "Romanze" series for Rosenthal porcelain. Romanze Vase für Rosenthal Porzellan durch Künstler, Bjorn Wiinblad. The embossed white vase has overall ovals and tiny dots somewhat in a honeycomb pattern, growing small upon rising, eventually fading out completely. The two-tone gilding is a stylized leaf and floral pattern, with many small berries as part of the design. From the 5.5" (13.97 cm) diameter bulbous body, the vase rises to a slim, 1.125" (2.85 cm) diameter torso to an overall height of 10.5" (26.67 cm). The underglaze green signature is that of "Rosenthal" with the crown logo, "Studio-linie, Germany, from romanze design: Bjorn Wiinblad," and is followed by the cursive signature of "Bjorn Wiinblad." Excellent condition. c. 1960-1964. $16 US Shipping ABOUT THE ARTIST: Bjorn Wiinblad was born in 1918, in Copenhagen, Denmark. He later studied at the Royal Academy of Arts & Design, eventually to become one of the most versatile artists of the 20th Century, designing in porcelain, glass, and illustration, as well as sets and costuming for the theatre and opera. He was "discovered" in 1957 by Philip Rosenthal beginning a design coalition that lasted for nearly 50 years, until Wiinblad's death in 2006. Both the artist and the porclain manufacturer are currently being honored by an extensive exhibit in Denmark. There will be no further designs by this artist, and we are pleased to offer this lovely vase in the Barclay Galleries catalog. På dansk: årgang Rosenthal vase Bjorn Wiinblad. |
