| 19th Century Necklace in gold-tone mounts and chain, is from the Victorian era, and likely made on the Island of Murano, in Italy, where creating glass with the appearance of natural stones was an art. Each cut, multi-faceted stone has the appearance of dark Citrine, or Tourmaline, complete with the inclusion lines. Embedded into the beautifully colored glass is a chunk of opaque white, obviously the creation of a master glass craftsman. Light upon the necklace brings out shades of red-orange. We find no marks on the gold-tone metal, which has darkened to a nice patina through the years. We believe the clasp is a replacement, probably sometime in the 20th century. 20" (50.80 cm), with the largest stone measuring 1.125" x .75" (2.85 x 1.90 cm). Excellent condition with a little verdigris on the verso metal. c. 1855-1875. $10 US Shipping. [see our Newsletter, left menu, for Cyber Monday special] | ||||||||||
