Documented (see 2nd paragraph) "Paolo" or "Rose" pattern Clear to Amethyst Decanter by Moser. Deeply engraved rose and leaf pattern around body of the decanter, with deeply cut diamond points at top of attached cut stem. Note the sharply pointed end of the decanter body which is cradled inside the attached stem. The varying pattern surrounds the bowl, as well as displaying a garland of leaves around the throat, and around the foot. Gilt was once heavy on the garlands, but only traces of it remain. The gilt bands at the base of the neck and the rim remain mostly intact. The long, dark amethyst neck is deeply cut vertically on all sides, and begins and ends in rounded "petals." The many outstanding features of this decanter make it a superb piece of glass for the collector. 13.50" tall to top of stopper, 10.75" tall to rim, 3.50" diameter foot. Excellent undamaged condition, with described wear to the gilt, and replacement stopper. Gary Baldwin documents the decanter on page 124, "Moser Artistic Glass," Edition Two, as having a value of $3500 with four cordial glasses. Our piece is missing the original stopper, and we have replaced it with one that works. The lucky buyer of this piece will surely run across an original stopper for this exquisite piece of glass, in time. In the meantime, it is luscious, and a bargain as it is. c. 1900-1930. $20 US Shipping. |
