Impressionist oil painting on artist's panel, of autumn in the mountains by Marjorie MacMonnies Wysong (b. 1897-), the daughter of famous 19th Century artists, Frederick and Mary MacMonnies. Signed lower right, "Marjorie Mac Monnies Wysong." We believe this may be a view of the Catskill Mountains, New York. Measures 8" x 10", newly framed to 13" x 11" x 2.25". $25 US Shipping. Condition is excellent. ABOUT THE MACMONNIES: Frederick (1863-1937) and Mary (1858-1946) lived for about 25 years in Giverny, France among the now famous French impressionists including Monet, Cassat and others, with Mary considered to be the "leader" of the American art colony of Giverny. Marjorie was born during their stay in France, and was painted as a child by her mother, in at least three works -- "The Picture Book," at age four; in a study, on wood, "Marthe Lucas, Betty (Berthe Helene) & Marjorie," (Marthe was the children's governess; Betty was Marjorie's older sister); and in "Betty and Marjorie with Doll." Marjorie's married name was "Wysong," leading us to date this painting perhaps to the 1920s or 1930s. Please use our search box for more paintings by this artist. |
