Ornate Louis XVI Revival wooden Mahogany Shelf, with attached, very decorative 19th Century, wide-beveled mirror in a pleasing shape, framed by two, solid brass, winged putti, one on either side, each carrying a floral bouquet; floral and acorn roping around the mirror. Étagère d'acajou en bois de renaissance fleurie de Louis XVI, parenthèse, avec le miroir. The mahogany platform is edged on three sides, in ribbon-tied gadrooning, of the Louis XVI style. There is one area of the brass on the mirror, which has thinned and created an innert, stable split, and which appears to have been there in its present state for quite sometime (photos 10 & 11). The burnished gilt of the mirror is not as bright as that of the ormolu gadroon trim of the shelf, as is apparent in the photos. The bracket is designed so that it may sit on another piece of furniture or vanity top, or it may be hung on the wall. It measures 18" x 4" x 8.75" (45.72 x 10.16 x 22.22 cm) tall, with the platform at 1" (2.54 cm) thick. c. 1850-1890. $55 US Shipping. |
